“Sometimes I look at people and I make myself try and feel them as more than just a random person walking by; I imagine how deeply they’ve fallen in love or how much heartbreak they’ve all been through.” – Her (2013)
I think it could be wise to learn this quote off by heart as it completely defines the name of my blog developed from the term ‘sonder’. Why sonder? Because we live in a world where each one of us is so inconceivably caught up in ourselves that we seem to fail to consider the complexities within the life of a stranger. We seem to be restrained to our own minds, our own dramas and beliefs so much so everyone else’s experiences are simply irrelevant. That’s why I picked the name sonder/sondering, as I wanted my blog to be a platform which gives one the option to hold insight into the life of a stranger or another individual thus being stranger or friend. Shooting film is important to me as it gives me the opportunity to capture a moment of significance which provides a form of insight into the lives of people, of moments that mean something to me. I like the idea that people look into these moments and have a completely different interpretation, get a completely different feeling fromthat which I develop.
Always consider the complexity of the lives of those around you whether you know them or not. Realise they may have fallen in love, their favourite colour might be blue, they might be aggravated because they haven’t been sleeping lately. Detach yourself from your own little world for a second to open your mind to others.
