Sydney based photographer, Kal Reston is one of those rare photographers that capture people completely and naturally as themselves in the most alluring way. Discovering his passion for photography at Speldour through the capturing of raw moments, he typically keeps his shoots as natural as possible with no hair, no makeup and always on location. Kal’s work continues to inspire my own, in particular the way he beautifully captures girls individuality.

Kal being the cool guy he is, answered some questions for, be sure to have a read,

When did you discover your love for photography?

Believe it or not I actually discovered my love for photography at Splendour in the grass, I was just people watching and playing around with a 35mm Kodak, I loved the way you can capture raw moments.

Who is your current favourite photographer?

I wouldn’t say I have a favourite photographer cause everyone has their own style and most photographers inspire me in their own way. But at the moment I’m loving Cameron Hammod & Henrik Purienne.

How would you describe your style?

I’d say my style is very raw and natural as I usually shoot without H&M and always on location. I don’t think makeup is beautiful, I believe everything has a beauty to it and imperfections are a part of life so you have to learn to accept them.

What camera(s) do you use?

I use a Canon 5D mark III, Pentax K100 – Film & Pentax Z70 – Film.

How did you get to where you are? What tips would you give to photographers just starting out?

I’d say persistence.. nothing comes easy, especially in the creative industry. You have to give at the start to even get into the scene, I’d say I did at least 40-50 unpaid shoots to get my foot slightly in the door & find my own style.

What do you think of

I think it’s eye candy!! The layout doe..
